What is the size of an order of Microgreens? How long do they last?Recently, we have begun offering that customers can opt out of fancy packaging and receive their greens in plain food-grade plastic bags. The following information on size refers to the fancy compostable packaging aka "boxes." Eco Pack Size: Pea - 100 grams Sunflower - 100 grams Radish - 60 grams Broccoli - 60 grams Crunchy Mix - 75 grams (only available in this size) Starter Pack Size: Pea - 30 grams Sunflower - 30 grams Radish - 20 grams Broccoli - 20 grams Eco Pack (the original larger size) The size of our Eco Pack Microgreen boxes are 24 ounces. Each box measures about 7 inches x 6 inches x 2 inches high. Most people can use around half a box of Microgreens per day but it depends on how much greens you have in your diet. People who find this size overwhelming or are unsure, may want to start with the "Starter" size. Cooking with Microgreens or blending Microgreens into smoothies/sauces/dips uses them up faster. Microgreens will last at least a week in the fridge, sometimes much longer. Starter Pack (the new smaller sized compostable container) The size of the Starter Pack Microgreen boxes are a standard fresh herb container, like you see fresh herbs in, at the grocery store. They measure about 5.7 inches x 3.5 inches and are 1.2 inches high. They are easy to stack. This size was designed for customers who are new to Microgreens, so you can learn how to implement them in your diet slowly and not be overwhelmed with too many greens. Most people, even a beginner with Microgreens, can easily use 4 of this size of box in 1 - 2 weeks.

Why do I have to choose the type of packaging? There is no price difference between packaging types, so choose the one that suits you best. Some customers have requested their Microgreens be delivered in basic, plain, food-grade, low-impact plastic bags without labels. These are the lowest carbon footprint option. It is rumored that the greens last a bit longer in these bags when they are properly closed, due to less oxygen leaking in. You can choose this option at the top of the product page as you order. Microgreens will be separated into separate small bags by type (to promote the longest life for each type) and placed into one larger bag for delivery. Five of these thin, light, low impact plastic bags still have a significantly smaller carbon footprint than 4 compostable containers in one larger plastic bag. To dispose, the food-grade plastic bags can be tied into a small ball and go into your regular garbage bin destined for the landfill. Our default packaging is compostable plant-based "clamshell" containers which look like stackable plastic containers (pictured in all product listings.) These packages will decompose eventually whether you throw them in the trash headed for the landfill, do your own backyard composting or have a compost service. These are not plastic, so do not belong in the recycling bin. The amount of time it takes to decompose completely depends on the conditions, but it will always decompose much faster than similar looking plastic containers. We advise removing the label before composting since sometimes there's plastic in the finish but we are working on phasing out any plastic in the labels. In spite of avoiding the use of traditional petroleum-based plastic, compostable plastic still has a reasonable carbon footprint from energy costs during production, shipping (especially due to size compared to bags) and is often not disposed of properly. If you do not specify your preference, you will receive the fancy compostable packaging with labels. These have a low carbon footprint, but not as low as the plastic bags. Some customers prefer compostable packages for space and organization in the fridge. New customers may prefer this packaging for the info on the labels, however all information on labels can be found in product listings. If you choose plain plastic bags with no labels, we thank you for reducing the already quite small impact of locally grown organic sustainable Microgreens!

When will I receive my first order of Microgreens? On a Tuesday. Microgreens take 10 days to grow so your seeds will be planted the Friday after your order is placed. Two Tuesdays after that, will be your delivery date. We will notify you by email when to expect your delivery. We also send a reminder email the day before your delivery. Example: You place your order on Monday, October 2nd. Your seeds will be sown Friday October 6th. Your delivery/harvest day will be Tuesday, October 17th.
-
I haven't received my first order, why am I being billed a second time?If you are on a weekly or bi-weekly delivery, you may be billed a 2nd time before your first order arrives. This is because I invoice several days before your seeds are sown. Seeds take 10 days to grow so you get billed before they are sown, and billed again before 10 days are up, so I can sow the seeds for your next order. Example: You signed up for a weekly subscription on Monday, October 2nd and paid the invoice October 2nd for your seeds to be planted October 6th, for October 17th delivery. Your next invoice since you are on a weekly subscription, will be Tuesday October 9th, for you seeds to be planted October 13th, for October 24th delivery. You have paid 2 bills before your first delivery, but it is because it's a recurring invoice for your subscription to be planted and delivered on schedule every week. Once you have paid one invoice, you are scheduled in the system for the frequency of delivery you have chosen. Your invoices will continue to show up every week (or bi-weekly, or monthly) like clockwork, and so will your greens.
-
What if I want to go from a Weekly Subscription to a Bi-weekly subscription? Or from a monthly to a bi-weekly?This is perfectly fine! We just require two weeks notice so we don't plant your seeds for harvest on the weeks you will not be needing them. Note that the price of your subscription may change when you change your subscription frequency.

I have too many Microgreens, what do I do?1. Cook with them! Microgreens wilt like spinach, so when you heat them a lot looks like a little. 2. Blend them! Make purées to add to soup, stocks, smoothies, pesto, dips, sauces. 3. Dry/dehydrate them! You can also dry Microgreens to use later in smoothies, soups, stocks and you can even add them to baking for extra nutrition. 4. Freeze them! Microgreens freeze well for future use in smoothies, soups, hot dishes, etc. They certainly won't have the same texture but they will still add color and flavor to anything you put them in. 5. Share them with friends and family! A lot of people are unfamiliar with Microgreens and find them fascinating. Encourage people you know to try them to reap the enormous taste and health benefits.
